Dr. ScaryPants

November 8, 2010

Hi all! I’m back from DC for a week now and doing just fine! The port is out and I’m healing well. I actually think I feel better with it out. Everything went pretty well… the hardest part was the prep… note to self: Remember to get arm nice and warm before two veins and blown and nerves are nicked trying to get an iv line in… sheeze!

Ok… now let’s get on to Dr. ScaryPants… I had an ultrasound before surgery…There is a 6mm something in my left breast… It could be the same 6mm something that showed up a year and a half ago and was pronounced benign last December. Dr ScaryPants scowls and flies around the room and says “I can’t give you a good grade on this one” and wants an MRI guided core biopsy (how much fun does that sound?)
I say slow down…wait just a minuit…no… unless I really need to. 6mm is pretty small, and if it is the same spot as before, and it has not grown, and my bloodwork is good (which it is), I say leave it alone and let’s watch it.

Here is the plan… I’ll get a phone consult with my regular surgeon and get a couple of questions answered about the location of this spot…and get her agreement to ultrasound first before MRI (which I don’t object to… just not with the word biopsy attached). Then I’ll get a phone consult with the Doc in DC where the last thermography study was done… have him study the computer images and tell me what he thinks about possible angiogenesis in the area. Perhaps I’ll get the thermal images done again when I get back to DC in December.

The object of the game is not being cut.

Meantime, to have fun, I”m enjoying singing… and dancing! It is a horrible conflict in schedule that both have to be at the same time. I’m trying to have both. The dancing is just perfect and I think essential to the process that I’m in right now… Last week I went to dance and just did it nice and easy and stayed for about half the class and went home… I’ll write more on this later…

    Hi, Liz –

I know we all have to take our lumps, but I wish yours wasn’t so scary. Sounds as if the blood work may be a good sign indicating a benign situation.

I’m really glad to hear that you are singing (I can’t imagine you not); what piece(s) are you doing? And dancing, too! So great for the soul. We have been at it for a couple of years. What do you like? Tim told me once that you both like swing — Sara’s favorite. I’m a waltz and foxtrot type, with a romantic leaning toward tango. We haven’t done this much dancing since high school. Too bad you have to cut it short, but maybe the conflict will go away after your concert? More by e-mail; meantime, best to you both, and

    Cheers,

    Bob
