Water Filters (and why you need them)

December 4, 2008

Yuck!  We cleaned the water filter yesterday…these filters, which are jet black when clean, have only been in use since last April.   I estimate that they have only filtered 220 gallons of water.  There have not been any unusual plumbing issues…you know, like the water being turned off which can stir up rusty water from the pipes.

Very dirty water filter

We scratched off some of the yellow slime just to give you an idea of how bad this got.

what kind of system do you have?

Hi Deb! It is a Berkey Filter. Berkey is a gravity filter…you fill the top from the tap and the water goes through the filters and collects in the bottom. The filter sits on the counter, or , in my case, a plant stand 🙂 They come in all different sizes. We have a four gallon one. I use this water for washing veggies, and cooking, watering the wheatgrass (would you want to use this yucky tap water on your wheatgrass crop?…)
If you click on “His design for health” on the right side of the page, Donna can help you find a distributor to help you if you want. cheers!
